We've Moved!

Ok, before you worry the studio is still in the same location, but the blog has a new home!

Our new website launched early this week, and our blog is now a part of our website. I guess that makes our site a "blogsite". A special thanks to Robyn and Mike of Figit for all of their hard work on our new site. They did a fantastic job with our multitude of requests, and gave us an awesome customized site!

Our blog can now be found at www.seitzphotography.com

Be sure to update any bookmarks or RSS feeds. And if you usually read the blog via our Facebook page, we'll still be posting there, only the entries will post to Beth's account. So to keep up through Facebook, make sure you're friends with Beth Seitz!

Happy Birthday, Baby!

Elmo- who doesn't love the furry little guy who brings joy wherever he goes. He was the star appearance at Thomas' First Birthday Party this past Saturday. Grandparents and great grandparents came by to celebrate Thomas turning one. Thomas' day was full of joy and a LOT of excitement.

Now that I know how perfect grandchildren can be, a joyful photo session for me is one where a grandmother comes in with her grandchild.

Brenda came in for her own session last year and we became friends immediately. My first grandbabies were on their way and Brenda could not say enough about the fun it was to be a grandmother. She literally gushed about Ellie, her granddaughter and made it sound as if she hung the moon. Now that I know this incredible gift of grandbabies, I understand that she was telling the truth. Ellie did hang the moon ... for her!

Ellie is three and loves to jump around like Tigger. We had fun and from that time came photographs that show Ellie's personality - her bubbly enjoyment of all experiences.

Strong Women ROCK!

If you have been following our blog the past few weeks, you will know that I have been waiting for Iris Marlene - our newest grand baby - to come into the world. Well she is here! A little story about her name...

She looks a bit like her namesake - her (paternal) Great Granny, Iris Seitz. Her middle name is for her maternal Great Grandmother, M. Arlene Samson.

What she does not know,and I hope to teach her, is how strong the two women she was named for were in their own lives. Both women had 6 children, staying home to care for them. They loved their children and grandchildren fiercely and always were involved in their lives.

Iris - it will be wonderful to watch you grow. I will tell you over and over - Strong Women Rock - and encourage you to always believe in yourself! I look forward to telling you tales of the women who you were named for, and seeing glimpses of them in you.

Natalie & AJ: Married

Natalie and AJ had one of my favorite engagement sessions of the year. They are one of those couples whose love and happiness is made obvious just by looking at their pictures. In that case, I'm going to stop typing and just share with you some of my favorites from their wedding.

Parks: bebe

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm quite thankful to see the sun this week. I was beginning to forget what sunshine felt like.

I've had these images to blog about for awhile now. Parks turned one last month, and so he and his parents came in for his 1 year session. It took some patience and some time, but Beth finally coaxed some smiles out of him both inside and outside the studio.

Great Way to Start A Day - With A Song!!

It is no secret that we are waiting for Iris Marlene - our newest granddaughter - to arrive. Jaime, because she has horrible pregnancies and cannot wait to feel normal again. Matt, her husband, because he wants his wife to feel better. And me, because I am fascinated with these creatures I can call my grandchildren. They come into the world as new little people who are some their parents but mostly their own new little self.

The one person who remains unaffected is Thomas, Jaime and Matt's little guy. He has no clue what will be coming his way next week. His little joyful self is blissfully unaware. Not that he will mind. Knowing Thomas, he will see this baby when Iris arrives home and squeal with joy that another little person has arrived to keep him company. He thinks life is a party created just for his amusement.

So this blog is dedicated to Thomas. Each day he lives life with delight loving all that comes his way. Each day starts much the same - quiet time with a bottle and then- SPONGE BOB!! Several months ago, when he was small enough that we felt he wouldn't notice much, he started dancing to the Sponge Bob theme song. He could really care less about the show itself but that theme song starts off his daily routine of FUN.

Thomas - Never lose the joy of simple, silly songs... for you, Internet friends, please enjoy the start of Thomas' days!

Grandbaby day!

Last year my two grandchildren were born 5 days apart. Almost 1, last week they met up for the first time in a few months. Now bigger, it was fun to see them interact as little people.

Thomas met Layla as she settled in - welcoming her to his house!

Together they explored the toy bin...

then waited to go to the Park!

Layla got new sunglasses from her cousin as an early birthday gift.

She looks COOL! - and we are set to go.

Jordan

Last year, Jordan came to the studio with his family for some family portraits. Jordan is now in his senior year of high school, so this time around the session was all about him. He brought a basketball to use during his Studio Session, and Beth got some great indoor and outdoor shots of him.

Wine ... because you can

To those of our friends who know Jess and I, you understand that we have been visited in the month of August with what we are calling "bad August Mojo." Oh sure we have laughed about all of the crazy things that have filled this month BUT - we are also planning a end of the month purging. September winds will come bringing a cool change of the air and the awesome colors that come with those cooler temps.

In honor of the end of this August, I thought that our Internet friends should hear about a great find discovered yesterday. Jonathan and I have taken to exploring very recently. So where do you look for a cool place to ride? Trust your Garmin - that little gadget that tells you how to get places also comes with options such as "What if we have a Sunday to ourselves and we want to go someplace?" rides.

It lured us to a trail that is in the northeast of Atlanta - pushing us along as we watched our little screen car wind around the same roads we were on. The top was down and the hair was blowing. To make it even better, we sang to John Denver. Ok - Jonathan sang - he knows more of the words. I chimed in loudly when I felt the need or softly if there was a love ballad.

Ellijay ... Jasper... Dalton all "okay" but not the ride we expected - we thought our little Garmin had let us down. On we pushed and came into Cohutta - a place that unfolded into green and lush and rolling land. A beautiful reminder that Atlanta has not yet sprawled too far. As we were winding through this beauty a sign popped up for "Cohutta Springs Winery." I know what you are thinking - a winery in North Georgia?? but - what the heck - we drove in to try it out.

We met Paige as she was reading on the front porch of a beautiful log cabin structure. Inside we went with her to taste their wines. They use all their own or local grown fruit and have created a wonderful array of wines. There was sweet for me... and dry for Jonathan. Adam, Paige's husband chimed in and we spent a delightful time trying different flavors - walking away with some VERY interesting choices!

As you walk out of the store, the whole valley lays in front of you. To have met wonderful people who have put their heart into a new venture... to be able to see the beauty of what is called the Fairy Valley, we left with joy knowing we had found that unique someplace where a happy memory will always live.

Audrey & Richard: Engagement

The weather has been sloppy this August - it seems like each week there is more rain than sun. In the midst of a week of rain, I was meeting Audrey & Richard at Piedmont Park. The beautiful spot in Midtown Atlanta that is a dream garden of photograph opportunities.

Audrey & Richard met at work. Both engineers, they found their mates as they discovered each other. When I first met them, they were excited to have their engagement photography in the park they call home. Nestled in the front of the park, their home gives them the time to walk in Piedmont park quite often.

And so the day came and we escaped the rain that has come so often this month in Atlanta. The clouds gave us a soft backdrop to showcase their laughter, their love - their joy in finding each other!

Daniel Jean - a Pekingnese much loved by his owner was in for his portrait session this week. A year old, he was amazingly calm for the photshoot. Gotta love his warm dark eyes!

A perfect gentleman he sat quietly and smiled with his tongue at all the right moments!

I love this last picture - Daniel Jean looked like a champion!!

Benjamin: bebé

I can't believe Benjamin is already one. He still has the most gorgeous eyelashes, an infectious smile and the sweetest personality, but he's looking more like a little man and less like the little baby I remember him being just a year ago.

Beth met Benjamin, his parents and his grandparents at the park last week for some photos and a birthday cupcake.

This one is my favorite...I just love the red tunnel, the background, his expression..everything about it makes me smile.

Then it was back to the studio for some indoor family portraits...

Wedding Dress Redux!

Sherry and Bill were married in May and - as is sometimes the case - there wasn't the time needed for Sherry to have the bridal portrait done as she wanted. So on this past beautiful sunny Saturday, she enjoyed having her hair and makeup done putting on her gown again and coming to the studio for a bridal portrait session.

Sherry glowed - this time not with anticipation of her wedding - but by catching Bill looking at her as I photographed her smile!

Lucky to have found their love - my joy to capture Sherry again in her bridal session. A beautiful bride!!

A week is not enough for vacation. Trying to cram the rest you need, to enjoy some time alone, to visit with family - that's a lot to ask for a week of vacation. But - we did it anyway.
We took all the time we could to catch up with Layla, our 10 month old granddaughter. She toddles around - and nothing is off limits to her. She wants to know EVERYTHING!

This is my favorite picture from our trip - Layla and me sharing a laugh!

When we first arrived Layla had to check out her Pop. By the end of the week, they had formed a tight bond.

Layla is a Gymboree baby - and she loves it. At Gymboree she reminded me a bit like Ricochet rabbit - if you remember that cartoon. No sooner had she conquered one activity - or climbed one station... she was on to another!

Magic Moments

There's something about bridal shows that just make me happy.

Maybe it's all the smiling couples, so in love and excited to be planning their special day...or maybe it's all of the great decorations and other ideas everywhere you look...or maybe it's the samples of delicious food, or more importantly in my world the chocolate cake...or maybe it's just the fact that the people at bridal shows are just plain happy, and happiness is contagious.

This past week I attended bridal shows at Flint Hill and The Atrium here in Norcross, and at Primrose Cottage in Roswell (a big thanks to Robyn for helping me out both evenings), and last week Beth attended the show at Little Gardens in Lawrenceville.

So of course I've been thinking about all of the weddings we have photographed at these fabulous venues, and how some of my favorite wedding images have come from those weddings. I thought you guys might like to see some of them too...

It's ok to be silly

Last Thursday, Beth and I had the joy of attending the launch party for Atlanta Occasions Magazine held at The Foundry at Puritan Mill, which is a pretty awesome venue with a lot of character. Scrumptious food was provided by Endive, along with some great tunes by Lethal Rhythms. Although I never did manage to hear my requested Journey song, the evening was a fantabulous (yes, that's right it's fantastic + fabulous) one for a wonderful new magazine.

Early in the evening, we discovered the photo booth and had a little fun. In my opinion, when you step into a photo booth you're just required to be a little silly, and luckily I have no problem fulfilling this requirement. The nice folks from WOW Photo Booth even let us come back a second time for color images after we had the black and white taken.

The photo booth is a great idea for weddings and any other type of event. It didn't take long at all to get the prints in either color or black and white. Plus, you can personalize the center part, so brides and grooms could put their names and wedding date there. And WOW Photo Booth even has options for a guest book so the couple can keep part of each guest's strip of images, that way everyone leaves with a great reminder of the evening.

Dog days of summer

I love all animals, but if you asked me to choose one pet to have, I'm definitely a dog person. I came across this list of "Lessons from a Dog" awhile back (I think it was one of those email forwards) and it pretty much sums up why I think dogs rock.

1. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
2. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
3. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
4. When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience.
5. Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.
6. Take naps and stretch before rising.
7. Run, romp, and play daily.
8. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
9. Be loyal.
10. If what you want lies burried, dig until you find it.
11. When someone is having a bad day, be silent. Sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
12. Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
13. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
14. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
15. No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout…run right back and make friends
16. Delight in the simple joys of a long walk.

This past month I had the joy of taking care of my friends' two dogs for a week and of course I had to take some pictures...

I shoot people...

Ok - not literally - but it made you think twice. :)

One of the dreaded tasks you may have is to get a good headshot. One that you will be proud to share because it looks good ... not like a deer in the headlights school yearbook picture.

How to get a good headshot? Find a photographer whose work you like - make sure their style of headshots is what you are wanting. Interview them to make sure they know how to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Make sure you know the cost involved. Arrive a few minutes early to your appointment to speak with the photographer before she begins the session. Let her know where your headshot will be used.

This past week Susie came into our studio. With the changing times she is going back into financial planning and needed good headshots for her marketing pieces. Nervous, she asked a lot of questions before the appointment. What should she wear - style of makeup - accessories, etc. After the shoot she posted her headshot choices on Facebook. Her friends all sent glowing feedback to her.

One friend in particular wanted images for her high school reunion and for Facebook. Sharon called and we walked through all her questions. She "never" gets a good picture. I reassured her she would be safe in my hands. Her session came and Sharon was delighted with the results! She chose an additional image as she was so pleased with her headshots.

It is always a great feeling to know that a great headshot we have done is set on business cards, in marketing pieces, on Facebook pages... Knowing how important a headshot is in putting your best foot forward, I make sure you look great. I shoot people... well!

Look - A Deer!

There is a joke in our family that comes from our many travels. Jonathan was the main driver - I was the one who read the books... kept the peace. It was our kid's job to behave - HAH! As we traveled along, the kids and I would be engrossed in the book or game of the moment.

On many trips, Jonathan - who has keen eyes - would see a deer by the side of the road. As we whizzed by, he would always say - "Hey - look at that - a Deer!" Because of the speed we rarely saw the "phantom" deer and from there came the joke. We said many times that he must be seeing things. When we did see one, it was a source of great joy as we kidded Jonathan that this time there really was a deer.

Because that has been a joke in the family for so long - Dad saying there was a deer when clearly there was none that we could see - I find it ironic that our back yard studio is now filled with them. From the next room, Jonathan will call - Come on out - a deer is in the backyard! And this time there is one to view.

While the people who will most enjoy this story are my family, I still wanted to share - and to post pictures so that there is proof of the deer this time! A Doe and her twin fauns have been happily grazing on our grass. So – to our kids – Look, A Deer!

Cousins

When both of your parents are only children, you have no aunts, no uncles, and no first cousins...which some people find fascinating. I believe it was my sister who turned in a family tree project for a class, only to have the project returned to her because she forgot to list her aunts and uncles. I've always wondered what it would be like to have a crazy Aunt Julie, or a cousin or two to hang out with, so when I see sisters/aunts/cousins/daughters all together....I find that fascinating.

Cousins, Heather and Sarah, came in with their moms for a fun indoor/outdoor portrait session last week. We've photographed Heather before, so it was great seeing her and her mom again, along with meeting her cousin and aunt. Beth captured some great images of everyone...

Magical Mystery Tour

For those of you my age (give or take a few years) you will most likely remember the first time you heard the Beatles. I was living in NJ during their first trip to the states for their appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. Too young to really appreciate their music - I still listened to my sister's 45 playing "I Wanna Hold your Hand" over and over!

Fast forward many years and Beatle's music still goes strong. Imagine my delight when I walked into Mojito's in Norcross recently to photograph the reception of a bride and groom. A band - named The Mystery Trip - was there and each song took me right back to hearing Beatle's songs over and over throughout my life. Great music and great sound!

HB to our Design Queen

A year and a half ago, I was at a wedding consultation where the couple brought along their friend to see my work and give her opinion. She had studied fine art photography in college and also worked for a photographer in her home town for many years. She was quiet and I focused on the bride!

A few days later our studio was having someone come in who had answered our ad from Craig's List for part time help. As the woman walked in I was sure I knew her - she explained she had been the friend at the wedding consultation (I menitoned earlier that I do tend to focus on the bride during the consultation!!) Her name was Jess - and we hired her on the spot!

I could never have imagined that day what Jess would bring to our studio. Incredible designs for our marketing pieces and client photographic art... a friend to laugh with at life's craziness... album queen who can create a work of art for the bride and groom in no time flat... a woman who knows who she is even at her relatively young age ... a technology whiz who patiently explains that the reason my computer is doing ________ is not because I have discovered a flaw that no one in Microsoft knows about but rather I have my thumb stuck on the keyboard ... someone who shares my obsession with Chick-fil-A sweet tea... and the list goes on.

To Jess - a very Happy Birthday today. Thank you for all you do to make the world around you a better place. I wish you joy for this day.

7-Eleven - Great Day to get married!

7-Eleven! used to just mean a "big gulp" Great place to get gas and a slurpie.... growing up in NJ they were on every corner. Turns out it's also a great day to get married! We had two weddings with our studio yesterday so, as they say, this joint was jumping! Jess and I started early afternoon at St. James United Methodist to tell the story of Brooke and Chris' love.

Brooke and Chris met at college. His brother, Matthew, told their guests in his toast, that Chris set his eyes on Brooke very quickly and they began their three year love affair! Brooke and Chris orchestrated the perfect wedding with creative touches added to every part of their wedding. Their joy in finding each other glowed on their faces all day long.

A 57 Chevy was their carrriage of choice to carry them from the wedding to the reception!

Chris and Brooke hand made all of the guest favors.

Their bridal party combined family and friends from childhood and college.

Brooke's parents surprised them at the end of the evening with a '33 Buick to whisk them away to their honeymoon. Bubbles carried them from Primrose Cottage to their get away car!

Melissa and Darin started their day at home in Norcross.

Getting married at Simpsonwood United Methodist and having their reception at The Carlyle House their wedding was filled with their love together with family and friends from all over. Andreas and Steven photographed their day. Andreas sent a sneak peek from their wedding to share with you!

Ashton for President!

Ashton came into our lives shortly after we moved our studio to Historic Norcross. She was a pistol at the very young age of 2 - knew what she wanted - captivated the room when she came in because she took charge! And she loved life. How fun, then, that we have photographed her these past 3 years... and now she has a partner in crime - Callie!

On a beautiful morning not long ago they both came over and posed so sweetly for me. Ashton was bursting with the news that they would be taking a family trip to Washington, DC - and could not wait to go! Phew - it was hard even to sit still for pictures - she needed to get on her way!!

Looking forward to hearing all about Washington DC when they come back to see us - watch out "Ashton for President" - I can see it now!

The Perfect June Wedding

Ryan walks into rooms quietly and you can sense the calm forceful personality that fits his job as a police officer.... Katie JUMPS into wherever she is going - with a contagious love of life. Long after she has left the room people are smiling because of her JOY!

Saturday was a HOT'Lanta day for their wedding but that didn't stop Katie and Ryan from enjoying every minute. Their ceremony was at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Norcross. With all of the stained glass windows, the backdrop for the wedding service was beautiful.

On to the Northeast Atlanta Hilton for a fabulous reception. Delicious buffet - great song selection - and everyone danced the night away!

All good things must come to an end - Katie and Ryan left through a trail of sparklers - off to happily ever after!

Lucky - that is how it feels to live in a small town in America. Especially when our town - Norcross - is nestled into a huge city like Atlanta. We have the best of both worlds. Zip to the city lights if we want or walk to the center of town and enjoy the fabulous events that are alwasy happening on in our little nook.
After many years of working on a plan, we have a Farmer's Market! Tixie Fowler, our wonderful City Coordinator, has made it happen. Find information on our Merchant website: http://www.norcrossnow.com/

Who knew that Farmer's Markets have grown to include breads and jams and cheeses and... and...well LOTS of YUM! We took home some incredible sundried tomato goat cheese and three berry jam. Talk about memories that last. I can still taste the jam that melted onto my toast this AM!

Each June our Norcross Neighbors - www.norcrossneighbors.com - hosts an Ice Cream Social and we give out ice cream in bowls or cones to all the little faces in the park that afternoon - some of the big ones get ice cream too! Mojito's - a scrumptious place to eat cuban food in town provided the ice cream again this year. (Look them up on www.urbanspoon.com) If vanilla and choclolate weren't glorious enough, they have created a signature sorbet named after their restaurant! Scrumptious!!! Many satisfied customers later - we had to find a faucet to de-sticky ourselves! But it was worth it to see all the smiles!

Laughter and love. I think both of those are very important in life. And if you can find a good balance between both, you should hold on to it, for it is truly a great thing.

Natalie and AJ are getting married this fall. After one rained out engagement session, the sun finally made an appearance to provide some gorgeous light for the rescheduled shoot. I've been processing their images today, and what I've seen is lots of laughter and love. Their pictures make me smile (and it's always nice to smile at work on a Monday).

Catching up with family

There is a joy in gathering everyone together that is related. Ok, sometimes it can be crazy but, in the end, to surround yourself with people who have gone through life with you as a mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle... ... that is a FANTASTIC happening!

This weekend I had a lot of good things happen. First - I went to a wedding as a guest - not a photographer. What was great about that was I got to dance with my husband! The wedding was in Charleston - my first time there - it is a great city to visit.

The next good thing was my two grandbabies were at this wedding. I toured Charleston with Thomas and later had a chance to babysit Layla while her parents went out. The weekend was full of cuddling, lots of baby kisses and love... and not a few diapers!

The wedding was beautiful. All my sisters and me went out to dance to "We Are Family" - a ritual we make sure is part of every Samson related wedding. Caught up with where everyone is in life - who has graduated - who has a new job - who wishes they did. All part of a fun - food - family weekend.

This week was a full one - and it's only Wednesday! While Jess has been holding down the fort with our blog I have had the joy of having my parents in town.

No matter how crazy their visit is, when they leave, my mind always goes to my "Wonder Years" in our family. Raising 6 kids with love and laughter in our house could not have been easy. And yet they did it every day without complaint.

They gave me the ability to take joy in taking photographs. From each family trip and family gatherings I remember my dad's slides. He had a film SLR camera and there are boxes of memories from my life that bring joy when I view them. So - thanks Dad for introducing me to photography. And, Mom - for filling our years with memorable moments. I learned from you to enjoy my own family.

During their visit, we had time with Jaime and Thomas. How fun to see her snuggle with Thomas and I can see this joy of family that my mom and dad gave to me growing with her new family. Can't finish this post without a picture from our visit with them...

I love being outside. Unfortunately my fair skin and the sun do not get along. At all. Thank goodness for sunscreen though. Without it, I would not have been able to enjoy the sunny day at Talladega yesterday.

And so my love for the outdoors means I'm quite excited that we have all of this land on which to take pictures around the studio. Jonathan is doing some awesome work as our new "groundskeeper", making sure everywhere you go is like one very gorgeous backdrop.

Since there are some who have not had the pleasure of experiencing our wonderful new space, Beth and I thought we would have some fun in order to show them what they are missing. So here's a few shots we took of each other and our area last week after we had our makeup done by Christina.

Christina Kazadzis: Touch of Color Airbrush Makeup Artistry

Last year I had the honor of being a bridesmaid in my friend Laurie's wedding. We were given the option of having airbrush makeup and/or our hair done the day of the wedding, and of course we all chose to let the professionals make us over for the day (and actually those two items became part of our bridal party gifts, which I thought was totally awesome as I'm all about practical gift-giving). In the end, we all had some gorgeous hair and makeup, but it wasn't airbrush makeup as I had thought.

So you can imagine that I was totally stoked (wow, haven't used that word in ages) when Beth told me we were going to have an airbrush makeup session with the fabulous Christina Kazadzis of Touch of Color. Christina recently relocated here from California and I'm glad we have her here in Atlanta.

For anyone out there thinking of airbrush makeup...it's totally worth it. I'm not blessed with good skin, but Christina knew what she was doing and managed to cover up all of my imperfections. I'm also not a very girly girl...I like to wear jeans, t-shirts and comfy sneakers. I don't like to wear a lot of makeup, and I hate having that heavy, cakey feeling on my face. Airbrush makeup is my new friend though, my skin looked good and I didn't feel like I was wearing a lot of makeup. The one word I have to sum up the experience: fantabulous.

Afterwards, Beth and I had our own photo session around the new outdoor studio space. I'm not quite done going through those images yet, as it's been a very hectic day here, so stay tuned for more!

Speaking of good thing #2, Beth and I had an airbrush makeup session this A.M. with the fabulous Christina Kazadzis of Touch of Color Airbrush Makeup Artistry. It was my first experience with airbrush makeup, and I must say I am now definitely a fan. There will be more to come on Christina and her awesome service, but for now I leave you with an image taken after the makeup session.

Botanical Gardens in Historic Norcross

Pat and Beverly Eidt have been enjoying Historic Norcross for many years now. Both community leaders they are active in our Norcross Neighbors Association, Corners 2 Crossing Race and countless many other events that make our town an awesome place to live.

When Bev called us to photograph her family in her backyard, we were very excited. As well as working tirelessly as co-founder of the Norcross Tour of Homes, Bev has transformed her backyard into an amazing garden of walkways, lush green plants, blooms galore and places to sit to enjoy it all.

To photograph the joy of family in the midst of all of the green splendor of Spring was a wonderful request!

Ok, once again, I've been a real slacker in the blogging department. It seems like ever since I got back from vacation I just haven't been able to get back into my routine. Of course this week has been all kinds of crazy what with the tree falling outside the studio, taking some power lines down with it on Monday, completely interrupting the entire workday (btw, this is the 3rd tree in the past 5 months that has fallen near me...I think the trees are trying to tell me something). And it seems once Monday is messed up, so is the rest of the week. :-P

Anyways, this lovely family came into the studio a couple of weeks ago and they came away with a lot of great images. It was hard to narrow down the ones I wanted to post here, but I think I've got a good selection to share.

The good news: we've been so busy lately that my desk isn't big enough to hold all of the things I have to do.

The bad news: my desk isn't big enough to hold all of the things I need to do, and I've been a real slacker when it comes to blogging.

Amy and Buff are getting married in October. They were here a couple of weeks ago for their engagement session. Beth took them to the river and got lots of cute shots, then brought them back here for some more fun shots on our property. All in all it was a great session and their images turned out beautifully.

Back to reality...

While on vacation last week I tried my best to avoid the internet, because I decided it's good to take a complete break every now and then, and I think I did pretty well. :-)

My mom, sister and I spent the week in Hilton Head Island...my first time visiting the lowcountry. We also spent a day in Savannah which is an absolutely gorgeous and charming city.

As with any vacation of mine, there were twists and turns. I managed to lock my mom and I in our condo on the first morning. Yep, that's right...we were locked IN thanks to my curiosity and a malfunctioning security lock. Of course us girls didn't think to pack a Phillips-head screwdriver, so I used a vegetable peeler to unscrew the covering of the lock to try to unlock it. My sister, locked on the outside, had tried to use a credit card to unlock it...hey it works on T.V. so why not in real life? Then she found some tools in her car which she proceeded to throw to us via the balcony (let's just say hand-eye coordination is not my strong suit). Thankfully, a nice maintenance man named Richard showed up to save the day. He had to climb up a ladder to get in through the balcony, and he fought with the stubborn lock for quite some time, but eventually he was able to set us free. If it weren't for Richard, his tools and his strength, we never would have made it to the beach.
And that was just the morning of day one :-)

Today I've taken the plunge back into reality (which is almost as harsh as putting my feet in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean), glad to be sleeping in my own bed again, wondering where the warm temperatures have gone, and cringing at the sight of my pollen-covered car.

And because all posts are better with a picture, here's a few from my week...in black and white 'cause it's my thing :-P

I fell in love with the live oak trees and Spanish moss, which were both quite abundant on our trip. These trees are at Forsyth Park in Savannah.

The weather...I know I've said this one before, but really, this weather is awesome and I'm enjoying it as much as I can before the pollen covers everything in a greenish yellow film making it impossible to have the windows open...
Recieving a "just because" gift from a friend
Rainbow Sightings - a friend sent me the link to this website (thanks MK!), and it makes me smile. It's a collection of rainbow pictures taken by people all over the world...pretty darn cool.
Sweet tea from Chick-fil-A which is made even better by the fact that you can buy it by the gallon so we have some for awhile here at the studio
Public transportation...I just love it. I take the MARTA downtown whenever I can, and there's always something interesting to see.

Thomas and Pop

Thomas swung by to see us - he is thoughtful - he always asks his mom to come along so she doesn't have to sit home alone. A happy part of his visit was that his Pop came home for lunch while Thomas was here. While Pop made lunch he figured Thomas would like to get a better view... so into the sink he went. A busy day rushed in with spring weather... again. Filled with Tents - Events - Calligraphy - Planners - Beer - Romantic getaways - Makeup - Flowers - and the list could go on. Where was all this, you ask?? at 755 Club at Turner Field with the event put on by Atlanta Occasions and Atlanta Bride and Groom Planner. I have been to a lot of toad kissing networking events - but this was not one of them.. The energy in the room was great and the ideas were flowing!

Seated next to me was Maren Nicholas from Dreamweaver Calligraphy. Brides - Imagine the task of adressing your envelopes not only being done for you - but completed in a way that your invitations are a work of art?

On the other side were Cindy and Anna who work with Max Lager's on Peachtree Street - always great to find new and unique places to meet friends and eat out in Atlanta.

People who work in the wedding industry are fun!

Two people in every picture

When we first opened our "official" studio - you know - when you have a space that isn't half of your living room, my sister Wendy sent me a plant. Attached to that plant was a quote by Ansel Adams... "In every picture there are two people - the viewer and the photographer." Watering that plant this morning (the quote is still attached) got me thinking about why I love to do what I do. I get to be one of those 2 people! And the viewer - how cool is that - I get the chance each time I click my shutter to create something to view - a picture to illicit a response from a mom... a bride... a loved one...

We show our clients a slide show of their photos when they come to view our offerings to them. Always get a giggle when I hear brides and grooms comment on their memories of the day as they watch... love to hear the ahhhs or "I love that one" from a mom and dad as they see their little one.

Getting to be the photographer... and getting to know the viewer - this is the best job to have!

Besides clicking the shutter, Jess occasionally lets me create an album :) and thought you'd like a sneak preview of one.

Anna & Tim: Married

When I'm post-processing wedding images, I can always see the joy and the love between the bride and groom.
With certain weddings (more often than not around here), those emotions are so strong they just radiate from each image, causing me to smile and making the work of editing their images not feel like work at all.

Anna and Tim are definitely one of these "full of love and joy" weddings. Jonathan and Andreas did an awesome job capturing the story of their day.

Garage Sales - Why ARE we so crazy?

Today started EARLY - 6:30 AM - up and getting ready to put a whole lot of stuff out on our driveway... stuff we have used but no longer want. Stuff which is not worhwhile enough for us to keep and yet we want to get something from it. Do they have garage sales anywhere else in the world or are we the only people who put our unwanted stuff out hoping to get more than it is worth to us in return?

Of course the day was long... starting our with dew from heaven... ending up with a glorious afternoon of sun... and more than half the stuff we put out going back to the "garage" to give away. No longer worthy for sale, it sits forlorn and unwanted - hoping for a new home where it will be appreciated.

So why do we do it? Maybe because we, coming from a long line of people who want to get more out of life, decide every once in a while that we will try to persuade others to see the value in what we no longer want. Maybe because we need the exercise and it is an excuse to go out of our homes and enjoy this very true rite of spring. Maybe because we have poor memories and think this time it will be wildly successful... : )

Whatever the reason, Seitz Photography had it's garage sale today. Successful? If you rate the day in money it brought in - not so much. But in friendship enjoyed - wildly so! How else would we know that Heather would get up at 6:30 to help us... that Taylor would bring us Chick-Fil-A biscuits and Sweet Tea... that Jaime and Thomas would enjoy an afternoon outside enjoying conversation with Jessica... where "Moe" can get yet more great pictures of that little baby! So we close our day richer with the joy of great conversation, friendships deepened and babies enjoyed!

Time for my Friday Five :-)

5 good things:1. Signs of spring. This is the time of year that I'm tired of being cold and ready for some warm sunshine.

2. Having a day to be lazy and relax. This is my sister's cat, Alley...she's the perfect teacher for how to relax, and when the sun is shining through the dining room window, this is how you can in.

3. Pigs.

I don't know why the obsession began, but I do know that it started on a 7th grade band trip to Panama City, where I won a stuffed pig (later to be named Fred) at Miracle Strip Park. I used to have a rather large collection of all things pig, but I downsized the collection a few years ago so only the favorite pigs remain. I even had to forbid my friends from buying me anything pig-related, because I realized that eventually I was going to be the lady with the house full of pig stuff featured as a fluff story on the weekend news.

4. Bracelets. A big part of my love for warmer weather has to do with the fact that I can wear bracelets with my shorter sleeves.

5. Fresh fruit. It makes a yummy snack. :-)

Historic Norcross - Great Place for a Wedding

Last night Jess and I spent the evening at the "Romancing the Bride" event held at the Flint Hill - Atrium location of the Magic Moments group. As usual they held a wonderful event for brides... grooms... moms... and yes, even some dads to come sample their food, check out the latest table ideas and meet us. Alright - there were other vendors there - but really all those people came just to meet Jess and me!

I go to thinking as we closed down our display for the evening - how many beautiful weddings we have been able to enjoy there, serving brides and grooms with creative memories to enjoy.

Welcome to a 2008 stroll down our memory lane.

Bob and Tara - their wedding was in April - one of the best months for a wedding in Atlanta. Surrounded with joy, they celebrated having found the love of their lives with an outdoor garden ceremony that looked right out of a movie set!

They closed their evening with a stroll down the then deserted streets of Norcross - stopping for a hug before they were off to their honeymoon.

The Atrium has a magic cast throughout the evening - Matt and Amanda look like they should be in a Disney fairy tale.

The arches of the trees and the vines on the the beautiful sturctures that line the paths of Flint Hill create beautiful frames for smiling brides.

Jumping for Joy - sounds corny but there is always a sigh of relief when the ceremony is over and the party begins!

We're off to Primrose Cottage tonight to meet more brides. Twice a year the Magic Moments group opens their "homes" to starry eyed couples who have begun their plans for a life together. They come with their their notebooks filled with ideas as they create the wedding that will start them on their new path together.

And we get to meet them and share in this fun!

Smiles.
Laughter.
Nothing delights me more than when we are able to capture both of those in a photo session (don't get me wrong though, one of my favorite things is still the serious and pouty close-up face of a child in black and white). For some reason, there are a lot of people out there who don't like their smile, but I believe everyone has a natural beauty that appears when they are truly smiling and laughing. Capturing that true smile can be difficult, but Beth is blessed with that talent.

Of course it does always help to have a smiley, happy 6 month old like Parks sitting in front of the camera. He was here for his 6 month bebé session on Saturday, and there was no shortage of smiles and laughter during that time. :-)

Saturday was busy - the last day of February was a great day to get married!

Rob and Shelley were at the Georgian Club with a small intimate wedding.

Tim and Anna had a beautiful ceremony at St. Olivers and hosted a great reception at Little Gardens.

Sitting in our new studio office in our home I glanced out the window to find it snowing. As the usual family of deer moseyed their way through our backyard it was a winter wonderland. Since I am originally a Jersey Girl from the North(have to capitalize North in Georgia as they capitalize South!)... I don't often have the chance to see the beauty of snow. Once in a few years we get a soft white blanket that we all know will be gone tomorrow but - for a few moments - we are kids again and wonder at the fat fluffy snowflakes that blanket our life landscapes. Very soft, very peaceful.

The rain. I know, I know...it ruins outdoor photography sessions and kids' recess time...but I love the sound and the smell of rainy days.

Albums. Whether it's a wedding album, a bebé album, a Captivating Woman album, or just an album for no matter when, I love designing them. Plus, they're a great way to remember an event or stage of life. I just finished Sydney's album from her bat mitzvah last fall which was a nice change of pace from all the wedding albums I've been doing lately. Here's a peek at some of the spreads:

Brides...brides...brides... Oh - and grooms

Little Gardens was abuzz with brides... grooms... moms... and more enjoying the first "Romancing the Bride" event ever held at the facility now that Magic Moments has renovated the beautiful 1930's colonial style home. Gotta love how Magic Moments puts on a top notch event each and every time they open their doors! I love being asked to photograph at any of their venues... Flint Hill - The Atrium - Primrose Cottage - and now Little Gardens.

So - back to the event. Meeting brides as they look for the perfect dress... DJ... photographer : ) ... is always happy. Questions to ask - How did you meet? How did he propose? always have fun answers.

One bride admitted she stole her fiancee away from another girl while he was on a blind date. He laughed as he told how he made sure the "blind date" went home early because he saw his future bride across the room and had to meet her.

Another couple giggled as they recalled the proposal. He was all ready to pop the question at a romantic dinner till he realized that there was a table of bachelors near by - and that killed the moment. He made his move later in the parking garage, making sure he asked his love for her hand in marriage - before he lost his nerve.

Why do I love wedding photography? Where else can you see so much joy in one day? Always feel blessed to be asked to serve a bride and groom with their wedding story.

Baby Aaron

Baby Aaron was in the studio on Saturday for his first photo session. He is the newest member of our bebé collection program, joining all of the other wonderful babies we get to see grow up. From what I was hearing that day, he wasn't too happy with the camera and the lights and all the fuss involved in the picture-taking process, but from what I've seen of his session, he looks like he enjoyed it :-) Here's a few of my favorites:

Hot tea, hot cocoa...basically any hot beverage besides coffee (though I do love the smell of coffee)

Gallery mounting...I love the option of not having to frame a photo, and I think the gallery mounting is perfect for that. It's cheaper than a canvas wrap though still just as cool. My sister and I did some photo/paintings for my mother's kitchen for a Christmas present, and they look pretty darn cool hanging on her wall. We went with the 1" mount, though there is also the 3/8" option.

Having a window to look out during the day. Ok, so it's really a door with a window, but it's nice to be able to see the outdoors.

Facebook. I don't mind admitting that I'm hopelessly addicted...I even made the studio it's own facebook page which really just feeds the addicition.

My iPod. I love music...I literally listen to anything and everything...and every day has it's own soundrack.

Baby Gavin

Baby Gavin and his parents came in for a studio session last week. I wasn't here that day, but I just finished processing their images and from the looks of things, Gavin did exceptionally well for his first studio session. :-)

Ok... first the move of all things Seitz Photography to our new location... then tearing up carpet for a new studio floor... hanging pictures so people can see what we do... meeting with people so they can choose the prints they want created... or with brides as they talk about photographing their wedding - PHEW! we have been busy!

In the midst of the sore muscles and trying to find everything , came 3 women who made us remember the joy of why we do this! Christine - a transplant from CA looking to model in Atlanta... Ashley - an actress needing a new portfolio look ... Christy - a young businesswoman up for an award. Each one came in to our lives and shared a bit of their story. It was my pleasure to photograph their beauty and their style in the middle of the boxes still waiting to be unpacked. Thank you, all three, for making it worthwhile to be a photographer - even one who needs Ben-gay to make it through the day!

Yep, I have The Jeffersons theme song running through my head right now which can only mean one thing...the studio has moved!

After months of unsuccessful attempts to re-negotiate our current situation, we decided a studio move would be the resolution that would best serve our clients. So, we still have the same hours, the same mad photography skillz and the same great service--just in a different location not far from the old space.

We're settling in here quite nicely and I'll be posting some images of our new home just as soon as I can. For now, I'll leave you with a couple of album spreads from Amanda and Matt's album that I finished not too long ago.

I've kept a personal journal and/or blog for as long as I can remember. Quite a few years ago, I began doing a daily entry with my 3 good things of the day. Writing out my 3 good things isn't always easy, especially if I'm having a bad day. It forces me to find the good, which is something we could always use more of. That being said, I figured I'd do a version of my 3 good things here...only it'll be my 5 good things of the week.

Warmer weather...I enjoy any excuse to open my sunroof and roll down my windows whilst driving.
Dropping off the donation to Rainbow Village. Last month, we donated half of every session fee to Rainbow Village, a fantabulous (yes that's a word) organization devoted to helping break the cycle of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence.
Conversation hearts...you know, those little candy hearts with phrases like "Cutie Pie" and "You Rock" printed on them. Beth bought some for the studio and they're quite yummy.
Working my way through the ginormous stack of albums needing to be designed, and now being *almost* done
Getting the new website up and running.

Speaking of all those albums being designed, I just finished Kyla and Michael's album and am uploading it to their gallery as I sit here and type. Kyla and Michael were married last month at The Grande at Kennesaw, a really cute venue. It was a gorgeous ceremony and reception, and so I'll leave you with a glimpse of one of their album spreads.

So this is our new blog home! Feel free to look around and make yourself at home here...there's lots of fun to come :-)

Our redesigned website also went live today. As with any newly designed site, there will be kinks to fix, so I appreciate your patience while I work to improve things. I also welcome any feedback you could give me on the new site (after all, it is here for you!).

And as always, a post without pictures is quite boring, so here's a peek at Monica and Doug's engagement session last weekend. They did a few shots here in the studio and then spent the rest of their time roaming around Norcross. They are such a cute couple! I'm looking forward to seeing their wedding in April!
